Female Liquor Store Clerk Shot During Attempted Robbery

TAUNTON (CBS) -- One person has been sent to the hospital with gunshot wounds as a result of an attempted robbery at a liquor store in Taunton, police confirm.

Police responded to Eagan's Package Store on Cohannet Street at about 8:35 p.m Wednesday.

"There was a struggle. It was going to be an armed robbery," Lt. Paul Roderic explained during a press conference at the scene.

"The female behind the counter refused to give anything up. You could see [in surveillance video] that an argument had taken place and she reached for the weapon."

After the embattled gun was shot once, both suspects fled.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the female clerk behind the counter with a single gunshot wound.

Officials said the clerk was alone in the store at the time of the shooting.

Two suspects were also described by police. One is a tall black male wearing a hoodie. The second is a white male about six-feet-tall, with a blue hoodie.

The condition and identity of the victim are unknown.

No further information is available at this time.
