Off Duty Firefighter Pulls Actor From Water In South Boston

BOSTON (CBS) - A local actor is in critical condition after he was pulled from the water off South Boston Monday afternoon.

Sean Malone, 54, was unconscious when lifeguards and some off-duty firefighters brought him to shore on Curley Beach.

Boston Firefighter Chris Flaherty noticed Malone swimming far out and realized he might get in trouble.

Once Flaherty reached Malone, he got him into a passing boat and performed CPR. Waiting on shore were two other off duty Boston firefighters, Ryan Long and Andrew Lane.

Boston EMS arrived and rushed Malone to Boston Medical Center.

Malone is an actor who is originally from West Roxbury.

He's appeared in the films "The Fighter" and "Gone Baby Gone."

He is the brother of Boston District Fire Chief Scott Malone.
