Worker Hit, Killed By Tractor-Trailer In Norwood

NORWOOD (CBS) – A tractor-trailer driver accidentally backed over his coworker, killing him in Norwood Monday afternoon.

Norwood Police tell WBZ the 911 call came in just after 3:30 p.m. The two Sunbird Transport workers had been working all day near 1 Upland Rd making a delivery of roofing supplies.

It's unclear what the victim was doing behind the truck, but investigators say the driver reversed the flatbed without seeing him -- killing the victim instantly.

"It's particularly difficult where the operator knew the victim, where they know each other and work together," Norwood Police Chief Bill Brooks said.

There were no signs of impairment from that driver, and he was taken to the hospital at the encouragement of police. The district attorney's office has not released the victim's name.
