Police Looking Into Attempted Abduction At Norwood School Bus Stop

NORWOOD (CBS) – Norwood Police are looking into a possible attempted child abduction at a school bus stop Friday morning.

They say a man drove up to a girl at a bus stop around 8 a.m. and told her that her father was in a car accident. The man claimed her mother called him and asked him to bring her to the hospital.

"She realized something wasn't right," said Norwood Deputy Police Chief Peter Kelly, and the girl ran to a friend's house.

The man drove off in a white or silver SUV. Police described him as "tanned with a close cropped beard, possibly in his 30s."

Parent Christy Martincek called the incident "scary."

"It's scary, you know? With everything going on in the world, it's just scary raising kids these days," she said.

Norwood Public Schools sent out a reverse call advising all parents of the incident and asked them to speak with their children about how to stay safe.

Kelly said parents should use take this as an opportunity to talk with their children, and teach them what to do if a stranger approaches them.

"This girl was prepared and knew how to handle it," he said.
