A line of flames could also be seen in the woods.

Firetrucks pulled in front of and behind homes on Perigo Lane and began spraying into the woods and onto the tree line in the backyard of some homes.

The fire is believed to have been started by a homeowner who was burning brush in his backyard.

"It certainly appears the wind picked that fire up and brought it in the woods," Norfolk Fire Chief Cole Bushnell said.

The homeowner had a permit to burn, but the fire pit was close to the woods.

Fourteen companies of firefighters battled the brush fire and managed to contain it to about a half mile area.

Dry conditions have led to brush fires throughout New England in recent days.
