BOSTON (CBS) - News media organizations across the country have taken a strong stance against releasing election results prior to polls closing, in an effort to protect the integrity of the process. After coverage of the 1980 election resulted in claims that early reporting of results depressed voter turnout in some Western states, it has been common practice to refrain from reporting results too soon. But this year, a new company is vowing to release up-to-the-minute results using early voting, absentee ballots, and a breakdown of who is showing up at the polls. Do you think media outlets should report results as they become available? Would reporting results while polls are still open affect voter turnout?
