NightSide - Time To Abolish Grand Juries? Boston College Law Professor Kari Hong Is In Studio

BOSTON (CBS) - The decision made by the Ferguson grand jury not to indict the officer who shot and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown sparked protests and demonstrations all over the country.  When that was followed shortly thereafter by the Staten Island grand jury decision not to indict the officer who killed Eric Garner, some began to question the grand jury system itself.  Are grand juries an effective check on the judicial process?  Or are they simply tools of the prosecutor, mere formalities in the theater of justice?  Boston College Law Professor Kari Hong joins Dan in studio to debate the merits of grand juries, and whether or not it is time to abolish the system.

Originally broadcast December 8th, 2014.
