BOSTON (CBS) - In the wake of the tragic murder of Auburn Police Officer Ronald Tarantino, it has been revealed that assault and battery against a police officer is only a misdemeanor offense in Massachusetts. Police officers are considered public officials, and attacking one carries the same penalty as attacking a health inspector or a parking meter monitor. Should attacking a police officer be considered a more serious crime?
