NHL Announces Bruins Will Host 2016 Winter Classic At Gillette Stadium

BOSTON (CBS) – Outdoor hockey is officially returning to New England.

After months of rumors, the NHL officially announced on Saturday that the Boston Bruins will host the Montreal Canadiens at Gillette Stadium in the 2016 Winter Classic.

The game will take place on Jan. 1, 2016, and ticket information will be released at a later date.

The Bruins last hosted the Winter Classic in 2010 when they beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in overtime at Fenway Park.

Montreal will become only the second Canadien-based team to play in the Winter Classic. Toronto played in the game in 2014.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced the news during the All-State Weekend in Columbus, Ohio.
