NH Woman Killed In Snowmobile Crash

SUCCESS, N.H. (CBS) -- A 58-year-old woman was killed Saturday night in a snowmobile crash on Success Pond, the N.H. Fish and Game Department reported.

Officials said Lucie Gagnon of Berlin was riding across Success Pond Saturday just prior to 10 p.m. when her snowmobile struck an embankment and a large tree. Gagnon suffered severe trauma as a result of the crash and died at the scene, Fish and Game reported in a prepared statement Sunday.

Gagnon had been riding with her husband most of the day in Maine. They were on their way back to their camp on Success Pond when the crash occurred. Resuscitation efforts were attempted by her husband and a registered nurse, who was staying at a camp near the crash site. But it is likely Gagnon died on impact, Fish and Game reported.

Berlin EMS, New Hampshire State Police, and Fish and Game conservation officers responded to the crash scene. The investigation into the crash continues, but authorities said speed was a contributing factor, Fish and Game reported.

Gagnon had more than thirty years of experience riding snowmobiles, and she was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

There have been two fatal snowmobile crashed in New Hampshire in less than a week. On Tuesday, Pauline Robinson of Hudson died after crashing her snowmobile in Pittsburg.
