NH State Senator Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The minority leader in the New Hampshire Senate has been arrested for allegedly hitting a woman, biting her on the arm and kicking in the door of her house.

The state attorney general's office said Thursday that state Sen. Jeff Woodburn faces charges including simple assault, domestic violence and criminal mischief stemming from the encounters that took place both last year and this year.

Woodburn, a Democrat who represents the northern part of the state, couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Shortly after the charges were announced, the New Hampshire Democratic Party urged him to resign. Republican Gov. Chris Sununu called the allegations "morally reprehensible" and also said Woodburn should step down.
