2 Women Trapped In Car After Wind Knocks Live Wires Down In Newton

NEWTON (CBS) -- Two women were trapped when high winds knocked down a utility pole, draping live power lines over their car Thursday afternoon.

They had to sit tight in the car on Nobscot Road while utility crews shut down power to the area, and both eventually got out safely.

Connie Bauman said she's just thankful that she and her friend were not hurt.

"My friend who was driving said 'look out!' and she saw the tree falling and hit the brakes really hard," said Bauman. "And then the wires came down, and we were surrounded by wires. And we just looked at each other and said, 'We're alive, call 911!' So we called 911, and we've been sitting in the car until NStar got here."

Parts of Nobscot Road were still closed Thursday afternoon as crews cleaned up the debris.
