Newton Superintendent Hopes To Reduce College Admissions Stress

NEWTON (CBS) – The superintendent of schools in Newton wants to take some of the intense pressure off high school students and their parents.

So David Fleishman is hosting a book discussion Wednesday night at Newton South High.

He'll talk about "Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be, An Antidote to the College Admissions Mania," written by New York Times op-ed columnist Frank Bruni.

"If I can start a different discussion by helping to shift the perspective on this issue, by telling kids they're going to be OK, they can make a mistake, that some kids excel academically much later, then I think it could be of some help," Fleishman told the Boston Globe.

The discussion begins at 7 p.m.
