Stormy Weather Cause Flooding, Fallen Trees In Massachusetts

BOSTON (CBS) - Stormy weather caused flash flooding and trees to fall in several Massachusetts communities on Saturday.

A tree crashed onto a house and utility wires in North Reading around 5 p.m.

The homeowner said he was going to get his mail when the tree came down and knocked him right back into the house. He wasn't hurt, but his car was totaled and the house sustained heavy damage.

In Newton, a tree hit a house on Oak Terrace when it came crashing down around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. No injuries were reported.

The tree took down some power lines, according to the Newton Fire Department.

Bill Joplin was sitting on his porch across the street said he heard a crack and then saw the tree coming down.

"Luckily, it fell between the two houses, but it did graze the porch and the roof of this house," said Joplin. "But it spared the one next to it."

Over in Burlington, motorists who were out shopping for tax-free weekend at Burlington Mall had to deal with maneuvering through a flooded parking lot.

Water also gushed into the Harvard Square MBTA bus station.

Forecasts call for continued rain and scattered thunderstorms throughout the weekend.
