New Maine-Nova Scotia Ferry Cancels Trips For Maintenance

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The new ferry running between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, is going to go offline after the holiday weekend for maintenance.

Officials say the Nova Star will end service after the vessel returns to Portland on Tuesday. Service will resume with the Portland departure Thursday night.

The maintenance will include replacement of the ship's Marine Evacuation System, which includes an inflatable chute and life rafts that would be deployed during an emergency.

The company says passengers already booked on the canceled trips will get refunds, along with the opportunity to rebook at a later date.
