Autopsy: Man In Police Shooting Suffered 3 Gunshot Wounds

HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — A man fatally shot by police outside of a state liquor store on Interstate 95 in Hampton, New Hampshire, suffered three gunshot wounds, an autopsy concluded Wednesday.

Authorities said the autopsy of Barry Jones, 36, of Portsmouth, shows he had two gunshot wounds to his torso and one to his left shoulder.

Attorney General Gordon MacDonald said Jones was shot Tuesday. Jones was treated at the scene and was taken to a Portsmouth hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

MacDonald said police had been provided information earlier in the day that Jones was intoxicated, took his neighbor's pickup truck and had a handgun. Police said Jones crashed the vehicle a few minutes after taking it, causing some damage to a front tire. He then continued onto I-95, heading south.

A state trooper saw the vehicle at the liquor store. MacDonald said there was an encounter between troopers and Jones in front of the store, where one or two troopers discharged their guns. No one in the store was hurt.

MacDonald said the names of the officers involved in the shooting are being withheld pending a formal interview. Each officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
