Patriots Linebacker Jerod Mayo Announces Retirement

FOXBORO (CBS) – Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo announced his retirement from the NFL Tuesday night through his Instagram account.

In a post captioned "Retiring a Patriot," the 8-year veteran said the 2015-16 season was his last.

"After a lot of thought Chantel and I take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for what we consider a life-changing event… that of becoming a New England Patriots for the past eight years," Mayo wrote.

Mayo went on to thank the Kraft family, Bill Belichick, the Patriots organization and the team's fans.

"As my family and I prepare for the future, be sure that the Pats memories will always hold a special place in our hearts," Mayo concluded the post.

If Mayo has indeed finished his career, he concludes with 537 tackles, 103 games played, and one Super Bowl ring.

The Patriots have not officially confirmed Mayo's retirement.
