New Bedford Boy Found Safe After Being Mistakenly Dropped Off At School
NEW BEDFORD (CBS) –- A young boy was found safe at home after he was mistakenly dropped off at a New Bedford school, which had no classes because of Good Friday.
New Bedford Police and State Police were searching for a boy after he was seen crying outside Hathaway Elementary School on Court Street.
Jonathan Carvalho, community relations manager at New Bedford Public Schools, said the student "seemed upset and headed north on Tremont Street...and we're working to confirm that every Hathaway student made it home."
The search started around 10 a.m. and involved several agencies. A Fairhaven family also helped out.
Just before noon, police said the boy had been found safe. Police Capt. Joseph Cordeiro said they followed-up on some leads and found the child healthy and at home.
Investigators said the boy, who is new to the school district, had been dropped off at school by mistake.
After realizing no one was at school, the boy started walking home and was located about six blocks from his home. He has also been reunited with his parents.
