New Bedford Man Dies After Raft Overturns In Water

NEW BEDFORD (AP) — Officials say a 46-year-old New Bedford man pulled from the water off Fort Taber has died after his inflatable raft overturned.

New Bedford Fire Chief Michael Gomes said the man was unconscious and unresponsive when he was pulled from the water at about 6 p.m. Sunday. Attempts were made to revive him.

Officials have provided no other information. Authorities are continuing to investigate.

Gomes says a small inflatable raft was involved in the incident in rough waters and strong winds. Two others were also pulled.

Officials say it's unclear how the group ended up in the water or if they were wearing life jackets.
