Motorcyclist Dies, His Passenger Seriously Hurt After Being Hit By Car In Wrentham

WRENTHAM (CBS) -- A Rhode Island motorcyclist died and his teenage passenger was seriously injured in a crash with a car on Route 1 in Wrentham Saturday afternoon.

State Police say the crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. north of Thurston Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 46-year-old Mansfield man was traveling west on Thurston Street in a 2013 Subaru Outback, attempted to turn onto Route 1 North and then a left-hand turn across the adjoining northbound travel lane, when he collided with a 2010 Victory Cross Country motorcycle, police said.

35-year-old Joseph Carpentier of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, was rurhsed to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 15-year-old boy riding with him was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

The driver of the Subaru and his three passengers were not hurt, police say.

The crash remains under investigation by police, and as of Saturday night no charges had been filed. No additional information was immediately available.
