Mother, Toddler Escape Attempted Carjacking In Attleboro

ATTLEBORO (CBS) - Attleboro police arrested a man for an attempted carjacking while a mom was putting her toddler in a minivan.

Officers say the 30-year old woman was walking with her 2-year old when a man started following her. She walked faster and made it to her minivan that was parked at the intersection of County and Riverbank Roads. It was around noontime on Wednesday.

Investigators say nearby surveillance video shows the woman putting her child in the back seat when the suspect, Andrew Dowhan, tries to open the driver's side door. The woman jumped into the minivan, locked the door and drove to safety. She called police. They found him not long after as he searched for another unlocked vehicle.

Dowhan then received a free ride back to jail; he had only been free for about an hour from an arrest the night before for breaking and entering.

Officers say the mom and toddler were not injured. Dowhan is charged with attempted carjacking.
