Most Mass. Legislative Candidates Running Unopposed

BOSTON (AP) — Candidates in a majority of Statehouse races in Massachusetts are facing no opposition on the November ballot.

Of the 160 seats up for grabs in the Massachusetts House, candidates in 116 of the races are unopposed. That's about 72 percent unopposed.

There's also little competition in the 40-member Massachusetts Senate, where candidates in 25 races are not facing challengers.

Several congressional races are also free of competition.

Four out of the nine incumbent members of the state's all-Democratic U.S. House delegation — Reps. James McGovern, Katherine Clark, Seth Moulton and Michael Capuano — face no opposition.

Neither of the state's two U.S. senators — Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey — is up for election this year.
