Mookie Betts Named AL Player Of The Month For July

BOSTON (CBS) -- Mookie Betts is fast becoming one of the best players not just on the Red Sox but in all of baseball, and the league can't help but take notice.

On Wednesday, Betts was named the American League Player of the Month for July.

Washington's Daniel Murphy earned the honor in the National League.

In the month of July, Betts batted .368 with five home runs, 10 doubles, one triple and 15 RBIs. He also stole five bases while leading the AL in extra-base hits.

Betts also played in his first career All-Star Game in July, going 1-for-2 with a run scored for the AL.

Betts is the second Red Sox player to earn the Player of the Month honor this season, as Jackie Bradley Jr. was the AL's best player in May.

Betts beat out Albert Pujols, Josh Donaldson, Mike Napoli, Tyler Naquin, Jose Altuve and Mitch Moreland for the honor.
