MLB Trade Deadline Live Blog: Price, Lester, Lackey The Big Names Moved On Deadline Day

4:27 p.m.: All right, I'm calling it! Thanks for following what was a wild and crazy deadline day!

4:13 p.m.: The Yankees got Martin Prado from Arizona, according to Ken Rosenthal.

And...

4:04 p.m.: We're past the deadline!

We will hang on for several more minutes to see if any last-minute deals trickle through the newswires. Even if they don't, that was a rather eventful day.

3:51 p.m.: There it is -- David Price to the Tigers.

That may be the last big move of the day, but stay tuned for the next 15-20 minutes. Deals always trickle through.

It's reportedly a three-team deal:

3:43 p.m.: Whoa.

Gordon Edes is hearing Stephen Drew to the Yankees. That would be something.

3:07 p.m.: Two trades for you:

Andrew Miller to Baltimore (details here)

Asdrubal Cabrera to Washington

2:57 p.m.: Looks like the Tigers aren't willing to match whatever the Red Sox' price tag was on Andrew Miller.

2:35 p.m.: More news that is obvious:

We kind of knew that, based on the whole deadline-in-90-minutes thing, but there you go.

2:22 p.m.: Hey, we've got another trade! This time, Chris Denorfia is going to the Mariners:

Denorfia is hitting just .242 with one home run for the Padres this season. Awaiting to see the return ... I would guess not much. And yes, that is correct:

2:03 p.m.: Ken Rosenthal reported, via a source, that Lackey intends to play next season under the $500,000 option that his contract dictates. That's a fairly significant surprise, based on Rosenthal's report earlier this season which said Lackey would prefer retiring over playing for the veteran's minimum.

1:47 p.m.: Small trade here:

We're still waiting on David Price. He's the big name left.

1:17 p.m.: Are the Red Sox the only team willing to trade players today? Yeesh. According to reports, the Tigers are moving in on Andrew Miller. I'd bet that develops quickly.

12:57 p.m.: All the details on the Lackey trade are here. It's Lackey for Allen Craig and Joe Kelly.

12:36 p.m.: Lackey to the Cardinals, according to Edes and Jon Heyman.

12:30 p.m.: John Lackey may be heading to the National League very soon, per Gordon Edes.

12:18 p.m.: Less than four hours until the deadline, and things remain quiet. Surely, they can't stay this way for much longer.

12 p.m.: As proof that anyone can fall victim to fake Twitter accounts, MLB Network just reported a fake trade from a fake Ken Rosenthal account. Ken Rosenthal is part of their crew!

As always, people who make fake Twitter accounts are losers. OK, back to the rumor mill.

11:38 a.m.: Jon Morosi reports that David Price talks have intensified, which is to be expected. The fact that the Sox got Cespedes for just two guaranteed months of Lester means the Rays should be able to get quite a haul, considering Price has a year of team control left.

11:29 a.m.: A.J. Burnett, does he still qualify as news in 2014? I guess so, which means the message should be clear to all young baseball players: Be a pitcher. You will make a lot of money forever.

11:20 a.m.: NESN's Tom Caron said a source within the Red Sox told him that the team will make an offer to Jon Lester in the offseason. We'll see where it stacks up with the rest of the field in December.

11:00 a.m.: Ken Rosenthal sneaking in a trade report, saying the A's have dealt Tommy Milone to the Twins. Jerry Crasnick reported it's Sam Fuld going to Oakland in the deal.

Milone is 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA for Oakland this season.

Fuld was with the A's for just seven games this year before being picked off waivers by Minnesota, where he hit .274. Fuld will likely split time with Gomes in left field to fill the void left by Cespedes.

10:56 a.m.: Jon Heyman reports that the Phillies have placed a "huge" price tag on Marlon Byrd. Anybody who watched Byrd in the infamous Bobby Valentine era must find that news to be hilarious. Heyman said the Mariners, Yankees, Royals and others are interested in Byrd.

10:49 a.m.: Here's some preliminary news from Ken Rosenthal: Expect the Rangers to be active today. That kind of went without saying ... but still.

10:43 a.m.: All is quiet on the trade front, though A's pitcher Sonny Gray had a pretty humorous tweet:

10:17 a.m.: The Sox are reportedly getting the A's competitive balance pick, as well.

It's going to be hard for the rest of today to live up to that kind of deal. We'll see what's in store next.

10:01 a.m.: It was not shocking to see Lester traded, but nobody expected a player of Cespedes' caliber to come back in return. For all the details on the deal, click here.

9:54 a.m.: So it's apparently Lester and Jonny Gomes in exchange for Yoenis Cespedes. Wow. How's that for a big deal to go with your morning coffee?

9:41 a.m.: Jon Lester has apparently been traded, according to Jeff Passan. We don't know where yet. It's on the West Coast. Stay tuned.

Jon Heyman guesses that Oakland A's might have been the "mystery team" in on Lester.

9:30 a.m.: It's July 31, which only means thing in the sports world: Baseball's trading deadline.

It's always a busy day across the league, and this year figures to be an exciting one.

Jon Lester remains the biggest name likely to move today, as the Red Sox have been lining up suitors all week with the hope of getting a major return for one of the game's premier left-handed starters.

The Sox also have made John Lackey available, and the veteran's postseason performance last year likely will have a lot of teams eager to add him today.

Elsewhere, don't sleep on David Price's availability. I still think the Rays would prefer to hang on to him until the offseason, when they might be able to get a bit more for him, but he could go today as well.

The bottom line is that there are so many teams in playoff races -- about 21 teams, really -- who are looking for that one piece to put them over the edge. And those nine or so teams with players available will be looking to cash in.
