Mitt Romney To Skip Donald Trump's Nominating Convention
CLEVELAND (CBS) - - Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney accepted his party's nomination for president just four years ago at the Republican National Convention, but don't expect him to make an appearance in Cleveland this year.
One of Romney's aides confirmed to CBS News on Thursday that the one-time Republican standard bearer "has no plans to attend the convention" and show his support for presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.
Romney's decision may be unusual, but it doesn't come as a surprise. In March, he gave a speech calling Trump a "phony."
"His is not the temperament of a stable, thoughtful leader. His imagination must not be married to real power," Romney said.
Trump has slammed Romney as "a stiff," but recently told The Washington Post that Romney could attend the August convention "if he wants."
