Man Shot And Killed In Mission Hill Grocery Store Parking Lot

BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston police are searching for a suspect who shot and killed a man in his 20's behind the Stop and Shop on Tremont Street in Boston's Mission Hill neighborhood.

Multiple gunshots rang out at noontime, a busy time in the area full of students and hospital workers. "I just heard about seven or eight gunshots. I thought it was a construction company," said a Mass College of Pharmacy student who didn't want to be identified.

Police set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and brought in police dogs to sniff through backyards in a search for a suspect. The victim was transported to nearby Brigham and Women's hospital but died of his wounds.

Superintendent-in-Chief William Gross said the brazen daylight shooting was troubling, and points once again to the need for help to get guns off the streets.

Students say they received a safety email from school, including Isabelle Bree. "The firearm has been recovered. A Boston Police investigation is underway and streets in the area have been blocked off," according to the alert from the Mass College of Pharmacy.

"It's kind of traumatizing and scary to think someone is carrying a gun around here and shooting people," said student Kayla Labbe.

Police say it was not a random shooting, but it remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Boston Police Homicide Detectives at (617) 343-4470.
