Missing Man's Kayak Found Off Fairhaven

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (AP) — Fairhaven Police say the kayak of a missing 21-year-old man has been found off of West Island.

Authorities began searching for Dana Dourdeville of Marion after he failed to return from a duck hunting trip on Tuesday afternoon.

Fairhaven police Sgt. Kevin Kobza said Dourdeville's mother found his car parked in a lot at the West Island town beach at about 7 p.m.

The U.S. Coast Guard located kayak about 3 miles offshore between West Island and Falmouth at about 11 p.m.

Kobza said there was a single glove inside and it did not appear the kayak had flipped.

Searchers used aircraft, boats and all-terrain vehicles to search the east side of West Island, the Little Bay area and surrounding conservation land.

The search was suspended Wednesday at 4 p.m. as darkness neared. Police said a "limited search" would resume Thursday.
