Missing Boater In Buzzards Bay Found Dead

BUZZARDS BAY (CBS) -- A boater who went missing Saturday night in Buzzards Bay has been found dead.

A 33-foot boat was found drifting in circles on its own Saturday prompting a search for the boater. The boat, which had no name or registration, was taken to shore.

The U.S. Coast Guard found the man's body around noon on Sunday in Cape Cod Canal. He was brought to shore where he was pronounced dead.

"We maximized our efforts throughout the search, always with the hope of locating the man alive," Capt. Richard Schultz, commander of Sector Southeastern New England, said in a public statement. "When we lose a fellow mariner, it is felt across the entire marine community."

The man's name has not been released. State police are investigating the incident.
