Minor League Baseball Teams To Hold Pete Frates 'Bobble Bucket' Giveaway

LOWELL (AP) — Two minor league baseball teams will have a special "bobble bucket" giveaway this season to honor the inspiration for the ice bucket challenge.

The Lowell Spinners will give out 1,000 of the Pete Frates Ice Bucket Bobble Dolls on July 26.

Frates is a former Boston College baseball star who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease. His ice bucket challenge last summer helped the fundraising effort raise more than $100 million.

The Spinners are the Single-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The Nashua Silver Knights of the Future Collegiate Baseball League will hand out 500 of the bobble buckets on July 25. One thousand are also available at the Spinners' website for $20, with proceeds to go to the Pete Frates No. 3 Fund.
