Milford Police Officer Shoots, Kills Man Who Attacked With Metal Pipe

MILFORD (CBS) - A Milford police officer shot and killed a man who attacked the officer with a metal pipe, the Worcester County District Attorney said Monday.

Police were called to Glines Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of a disturbance in the neighborhood.

They said 32-year-old Philip Castonguay, III of Milford, charged at the arriving officer with a metal pipe and the officer shot him.

Castonguay was rushed to Milford Regional Medical Center where he died.

The officer, who has not been identified, was taken to the same hospital as part of standard procedure, but was not hurt.

The officer was placed on administrative leave, according to department policy, Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early said in a statement Monday afternoon.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
