Man Charged After Middleboro Police Truck Rammed 3 Times
MIDDLEBORO (CBS) – A Middleboro man is facing a host of charges, including attempted murder with a motor vehicle, after he allegedly rammed a police truck multiple times Wednesday night.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. after officers responded to a call about a disturbance at a home on Wareham Street in Middleboro. Prosecutors said Mike O'Brien was attempting to steal a gun from his father's house.
Police followed O'Brien into a parking lot about a mile away. When officers approached his car car, the 42-year-old Middleboro man allegedly drove head-on at the cruiser. O'Brien allegedly backed up and repeated the action two more times.
O'Brien was arrested without further incident a short time later. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
Middleboro police said O'Brien is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder with a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, operating under the influence of liquor second offense and others.
The police report indicates O'Brien went to his father's house to get a gun to kill himself.
"He could've killed the officer by attempting to slam into his cruiser, and the defendant shrugged 'oh well,'" Prosecutor Nicole Piacentini said.
A judge ordered O'Brien held pending a dangerousness hearing in one week.
