Microsoft Recalls Power Cords That Can Shock, Start Fires

REDMOND, Wash. (CBS) -- Microsoft is recalling more than 2 million power cords that can shock users or cause a fire.

The recall affects 2.25 million AC power cords sold along with Microsoft Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 computers before March 15, 2015.

So far, the company has received 56 reports of the cords overheating and emitting flames. There have been five reports of the devices shocking users.

"Consumers should unplug and stop using the recalled power cords and contact Microsoft for a free replacement AC power cord," the Consumer Product Safety Commission says.
