Metrowest Princess Boutique Helps Girls In Need Get Prom Dresses

MARLBOROUGH (CBS) -- Girls who need a dress for their prom or formal will have a chance Saturday to pick out one of 3,000 free dresses available at the Metrowest Princess Boutique.

GFWC Marlborough Junior Women's Club puts on the annual event, which allows girls to find dresses and accessories such as jewelry, makeup and shoes. The event is slated for 9 a.m.-to-4 p.m. at Marlborough High School on Bolton Street.

The nonprofit organization works with school guidance counselors from the area to identify girls who would benefit from the event. The counselors help them make appointments, which are required because each girl will be assisted by a volunteer personal shopper.

MJWC coordinates dress drives with businesses, schools and individuals in months leading up to the event.

Girl Scouts and Marlborough High students will be helping setup the event. Seamstresses also volunteer their time during the event by making alterations to the clothing so they fit each girl just right.

If the project is more time-consuming, then the seamstresses will take dresses home, finish making the adjustments and return them to the schools.

The group is looking to help other schools adopt the program. For more information, visit the Metrowest Princess Boutique website.
