Students Threatened To 'Shoot Up' Methuen Middle School

METHUEN (CBS) - Two middle school students have been arrested for allegedly threatening violence at the Tenney Middle School in Methuen.

According to police, a 14-year-old boy told another student not to show up for school on Monday because he was going to "shoot up the school." A second student, a 13-year-old boy, said he would supply the weapons.

Police say a search of the students' homes turned up no further evidence.

"He didn't have the items he needed to complete a shooting of the school," Methuen Chief Joe Solomon said. "But we're just not going to tolerate any type of statement."

The 14-year-old was held without bail and the 13-year-old was released to his parent.

"The Methuen Police would like to acknowledge the courage of the Tenney Middle School students who came forward to the police providing information that may have prevented a tragedy," the department said in a statement Friday night.

The incident comes just two days after police arrested a 16-year-old boy and charged him with making threats against Methuen High School.

The students were not identified.
