NH Man Shocked While Putting Up Christmas Lights With Metal Pole

MERRIMACK, NH (CBS) – A man was shocked while putting up Christmas lights at his home in Merrimack, New Hampshire Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters say the man was badly burned when a metal pole he was using to hang lights on a large evergreen tree came into contact with a 19,900 volt power line.

Electricity traveled down the pole, struck the man and damaged electric decorations in the yard.

Firefighters and police responded to the home on Glen Forest Drive at 1:45 p.m. and found the man suffering from burns as a result of electric shock.

The man was taken to a Boston area hospital for treatment.
