2 People Found Dead In Merrimack, NH House Fire

MERRIMACK, N.H. (CBS) – An elderly man and woman were found dead in a house fire in Merrimack, New Hampshire early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters say someone notified them just after 12:30 a.m. that a home on Gail Road was burning. When they arrived they found 84-year-old Larry Hall and 84-year-old Pauline Hall inside. Both were pulled out, but declared dead at the scene.

Investigators say the fire started in the living room because of "careless disposal of smoking materials."

"Medical oxygen equipment located in the area of origin may have also contributed to the fire growth conditions. Additionally, there were no working smoke alarms located inside the residence," the state fire marshal's office said in a statement. "The manner of death for both victims is accidental."
