MERRIMACK, N.H. (CBS) – A New Hampshire police officer made an unexpected discovery when he snagged a 3-foot-long python from a driveway.

The post included a photo of an officer corralling a ball python.

The snake was found in a driveway across from BAE Systems.

According to the Animal Rescue League, the snake is a non-native species and is likely either someone's escaped pet or a pet that was let go.

"Please don't release your non-native reptile (or any species) into the wild," the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire said. "They don't stand a great chance of survival and they may cause quite a bit of harm to our native population."
