Cancer Garden Gazebo Honors Mayor Menino's Memory

BOSTON (CBS) -- The family of late Boston mayor Tom Menino made an appearance at City Hall Plaza Sunday for a special ceremony to honor the city's longest-serving mayor.

In a somber but inspirational ceremony, a new gazebo in the Cancer Garden of Hope was dedicated in memory of Menino, who died from cancer last October.

Menino was instrumental in the construction of the garden in 2010.

His wife Angela addressed the crowd gathered for the ceremony.

"Thank you all for being here with my family to celebrate the dedication of this beautiful gazebo in honor of Tommy," she said.

Menino's son, Tom Jr., said it was a great honor for the family.

"People will remember our father for something he did for the city - it wasn't about him. It was never about him," he said. "But this little piece, to us, is about him."
