Measles Case Reported At RI Hospital & Roger Williams Medical Ctr.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Authorities are tracking down and notifying people who may have been exposed to a patient with measles at Rhode Island Hospital and Roger Williams Medical Center.

The Rhode Island Department of Health said on Saturday that the patient visited emergency rooms at the two hospitals last Sunday.

The first potential exposure occurred at Rhode Island Hospital, between 3 and 6 a.m. The patient presented with fever, fatigue, nausea and aches.

The second potential exposure occurred at Roger Williams Medical Center when the patient turned up with continuing fever from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The patient was hospitalized and developed a high-grade fever and rash. He was discharged to home isolation on Wednesday and laboratory tests confirmed the diagnosis of measles on Friday.

Hospital workers are identifying people who may have been exposed and recommending vaccination, if needed.
