Devin McCourty To Re-Sign With Patriots

BOSTON (CBS) - A key member of the New England Patriots secondary will be staying put, as safety Devin McCourty will re-sign with the team, according to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

The deal is reportedly for five years and about $47.5 million with $28.5 million in total guarantees.

The team captain turned down several offers to stay with the Patriots.

According to NJ.com, the Philadelphia Eagles were prepared to offer more than New England.

McCourty called Patriots coach Bill Belichick Sunday to say he was going to sign elsewhere, which prompted the team to make their final pitch, according to Reiss.

"They stepped up at the last moment and what it tells you is deadlines spur action, "Reiss told WBZ-TV's Steve Burton on Sports Final.  "At the end it comes down to the dollars and the Patriots stepped up."
