Mazz: Get To Fenway And Watch David Ortiz Before It's Too Late
BOSTON (CBS) -- Tony Massarotti has a PSA for Red Sox fans: Get your butts to Fenway Park and see David Ortiz before it's too late.
Ortiz's retirement is just around the corner, and the slugger has just 28 home games left (regular season, that is) before he walks off into the sunset. His overall numbers this season are simply ridiculous, with the 40-year-old hitting at a .330/.423/.673 split and with a team-leading 24 homers and 79 RBIs, but they go to a whole other level when you look at his numbers at home.
At Fenway, Ortiz is hitting at a .367 clip with 14 homers and 54 RBIs in 53 games. He was 3-for-5 in Thursday night's win over the Twins, driving in four runs and sending another into the stands (not to mention, getting a ball stuck in Pesky Pole during batting practice).
Essentially, Ortiz is putting on a show every night for the home fans. And if you want to see it in person, you better hurry up.
"If you are buying tickets to home games in David Ortiz's final year, you are getting something every night. It is unbelievable," said Mazz.
"His OPS at Fenway is 1.235. His batting average is .367. He has more doubles at Fenway this year than he does strikeouts," Mazz continued. "He is putting the ball in play like Ty Cobb, slugging like Babe Ruth.
So if you've been waiting to buy tickets for the final months of the season, quit dilly-dallying and do it.
