Mayor Walsh Dishes Out Turkey At Boston Rescue Mission

BOSTON (CBS) -- Just before the big Thanksgiving holiday, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh was serving up some delicious holiday food Sunday at the Boston Rescue Mission.

Along with a number of volunteers, the mayor dished out turkey and all the trimmings to the homeless and the needy at the mission, located on Kingston Street.

400 families were able to eat a hot Thanksgiving dinner. The mission is also distributing Thanksgiving food baskets to people who cannot afford the supplies for the big day Thursday.

The mayor knows the holidays can be a difficult time for many who are without a place to live.

"This is what's life all about here today, feeding folks. The homeless, many here are homeless. I saw about a dozen kids in here today and you know just giving back to the community," Mayor Walsh said.

The Boston Rescue Mission has held this "Day of Thanks" for the past 24 years.
