Mayor Marty Walsh: CBS News Footage Of Addict Getting High In City Hall Bathroom 'Troubling'

BOSTON (CBS)-- Mayor Marty Walsh responded to a story that aired on CBS Evening News Monday showing a drug addict using in a City Hall bathroom.

The story is part of a series airing this week on CBS News following Jason Amaral, a 30-year-old Needham man addicted to heroin as he searches for sobriety.

In Monday's piece, Amaral says the only available bathroom in the high drug using area is a bathroom in the basement of City Hall.

"While open to the public, uniformed and non-uniformed Boston Police personnel and the Municipal Protective Services regularly patrol all public and administrative areas throughout City Hall," Walsh said in a public statement.

"Access to City Hall and the safety of all occupants is paramount," said Walsh. "While this footage is inappropriate and troubling, Boston City Hall is the people's building and it will continue to be open to the public to serve all of our residents."
