Firefighter, resident hurt in Maynard senior apartment complex fire

MAYNARD - A firefighter and a resident were hurt in a fire at an apartment complex for seniors in Maynard early Wednesday morning.

Maynard Fire Chief Angela Lawless said there were heavy flames coming out of a second floor window when firefighters arrived at the Powder Mill Circle apartments around 6:30 a.m.

All but one of the people living there escaped safely. That resident was taken to a hospital with what Lawless said was a minor injury.

A Maynard firefighter was also taken to a hospital for "non-life-threatening" injuries, the chief said.

Eight residents were not able to return to their homes. The Red Cross is helping them find a place to stay for now.

There's no word yet on where or how the fire started.
