MassDOT Employee Injured In Work Zone Crash

BOSTON (CBS) – A MassDOT employee suffered minor injuries during a crash at a work zone near Suffolk Downs early Saturday morning.

A crew had part of the road closed down on Route 1A near Suffolk Downs due to a downed tree when a car crashed into the work zone.

"It sounded like maybe four or five crashes," a neighbor told WBZ-TV.

A MassDOT employee who was inside a vehicle in the work zone suffered minor injuries.

He was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

An arrow board was struck during the crash.

There have been a number of incidents this summer in Massachusetts involving drivers crashing into work zones.

"It's just crazy that people are not paying attention," said Jeff Larson, the Mass. Highway Safety director.

It is unclear if the driver will face charges.
