MassDOT: No 'Victory Laps' In Early Mass Pike Toll Booth Demolition

BOSTON (CBS) – Traffic was a bit heavier on the Massachusetts Turnpike Tuesday for day two of the toll transition, but there have not been any major issues.

MassDOT says demolition of the old toll booths and construction of new lanes on the highway both continue to be ahead of schedule.

At a news conference Tuesday, Highway Administrator Tom Tinlin once again credited commuters calling them the "true warriors."

"Nobody here at MassDOT is taking any victory laps. We're happy we're making the progress we're making, but we know this is a marathon, it's not a sprint," he told reporters.

The agency's new all electronic tolling website is also up and running ahead of schedule.

Tinlin said phone lines are still overwhelmed, so they're asking people to take care of business online.

There is also a new live chat feature on the site, if you'd like to message with someone from customer service.
