Massachusetts Tax Collections Miss Target In November

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts tax collections fell slightly below projections in November.

Revenue Commissioner Mark Nunnelly says the state's tax take for the month was $71 million more than November 2014, or 4.5 percent higher.

But Nunnelly says last month's collections fell $55 million below the state's benchmark. Part of that may be attributable to the rollout of a new tax collection system that will shift some payments into December.

Through the first five months of the fiscal year, tax revenues are running about $73 million above benchmark. But Gov. Charlie Baker's administration has said that non-tax revenues — such as state fees — have been coming in below projections.

Baker has not ordered any cuts in the state's $38 billion budget, but the administration is monitoring the fiscal situation.
