Massachusetts State Trooper Michael Atton Resigns After Being Arrested For Second Time In A Week
WRENTHAM (CBS) - A Massachusetts State Trooper who was arrested for the second time in less than a week resigned from the department on Friday. Michael Atton was arrested Thursday by Walpole Police after he reportedly violated a restraining order in Wrentham.
Atton pleaded not guilty to a domestic assault charge there Monday after he was arrested late Saturday night by Wrentham Police.
Atton was arrested a second time after a neighbor of the alleged victim reported he was at her apartment complex this week. Atton's attorney denied the new accusations, saying the only time he returned to the complex was under the supervision of police officers.
He was released Friday and ordered to wear a GPS bracelet and to stay away from and have no contact with the alleged victim. Atton's attorney said he welcomed the GPS monitoring bracelet so he could not be wrongfully accused of being near the alleged victim again.
Because Atton resigned while he was the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation, he received a dishonorable discharge.
