Mass. State Trooper Charged With Domestic Abuse

BOSTON (CBS) -- Massachusetts State Police have arrested one of their own for a domestic incident involving the trooper and his girlfriend.

A preliminary investigation suggests the trooper, a 45-year-old Boxborough resident, restrained his girlfriend and choked her with his hands. At one point, police say, the trooper placed her in a choke hold before she was able to break free.

According to police, the girlfriend waited for the trooper to fall asleep before she fled the apartment they shared and reported the incident.

The trooper was arrested Saturday night and charged with attempted strangulation and domestic abuse.

The trooper is a 14-year veteran of the State Police and is assigned to the Concord barracks. His name has not been released.

He is being held on $500,000 cash bail and is due in court on Monday.
