Truck Carrying Liquid Asphalt Rolls Over On Ramp To I-95

PEABODY (CBS) -- A truck carrying liquid asphalt rolled over, forcing Mass. State Police to close down the ramp from Route 128 to Interstate 95 north Saturday.

The 34-year-old truck driver was injured but is expected to recover. No other cars were involved in the crash.

A picture, tweeted by State Police, showed the asphalt covering the road. Crews were called in to cool down and clean up the 2,000 gallons of liquid.

"They have the truck on its side because when it started to lose control, it started crashing right here and it slid the whole way over there," said State Police Lt. Michael Harvey. "Obviously, it got punctured so everything leaked across the road. The best way to explain it is like an ice rink."

said he believed speed was likely a factor.

State Police hope to have the ramp reopened around midnight.
